5 by Aka Akasaka
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was another great volume!!! Except now this is very difficult for me to review because I read half of this volume week by week as the chapters got released, so nothing but the last chapter is fresh in my brain right now. But I'll try my best!!

This volume started out with with its first actual arc which I will dub the “Summer Break” arc. That might even be its actual name, I dunno. This was a quite serious arc, and served to push along the romance more so than for comedy (like is usually the case with most of the chapters in this series). Now I don't know about anyone else, but I LOVED this arc. I normally don't reeaallly like episodic shows or manga, but this manga is so funny that it was an exception. With this being said, it was still really nice to read (and I have actually been hoping for) an actual arc that spanned a couple chapters instead of just one. It was a blast and also a feels-fest which is something I wasn't expecting. The combination of the story and miraculously fitting music that my shuffle decided to play while I was reading actually ended in my eyes tearing up a bit. It was quite beautiful, really.

The rest of the volume was back to regularly scheduled hilarity. Character bonding and hilarity. It's hard to say much more because whatever there is to say about this series has already been said in my past reviews. If by some disastrously terrible fate you're reading this review and you haven't started this series yet, I would strongly suggest you get on that.

During the entirety of my reading of this series I have been conflicted on how to rate the volumes. Right now I literally have zero idea. For simplicity's sake I'll just continue being consistent and also rate this volume 4 stars. I'll just say here that all of these four-star rating are actually probably closer to 4.5 star ratings, seeing as this is one of my favourites, for sure. *EDIT 1* Actually, you know what, screw it, it's getting five stars.

Random note: I want this to get an anime so badly. I mean, it doesn't necessarily NEED one, since it's not like being animated will enhance anything like it would in an action manga, but I still want an anime nonetheless. I feel like it's so good and quite popular in Japan that it's probably going to get one (knock on wood), which is something I can barely wait for. :D *EDIT 4* THE ANIME WAS ANNOUNCED ON 6/2/2018!!!!!!!!! IT'S HAPPENING!!!!! (Go to my volume 1 review for links to the announcement and the anime website.)

I also can't wait for (and really hope for) this series to become officially translated so that I can buy it and throw my money at the author. *EDIT 2* My incessant checking of the North American manga licensing list has finally paid off! Kaguya-sama: Love is War (that's the official English title that this manga is going to go by) HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY LICENCED IN ENGLISH BY VIZ MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get hyped for the release date (TBA)!!!! *EDIT 3* IT'S OUT RIGHT NOW!!!!!! And the next volumes are coming out right behind it!!

Please consider giving this review a "Like" if you've made it this far, it helps me out a lot! And follow me if you want more!

Review: 寄宿学校のジュリエット(3)

寄宿学校のジュリエット(3) by 金田陽介 My rating: 5 of 5 stars Brb, crying. Not actually, though. Like, I didn’t shed any actual tears or even get close to it, it’s just that this series… is so good . The romance between Romeo and Juliet is still weirdly innocent, but the actual story is so engrossing and entertaining. It also seems like almost literally every single character is complex and interesting and multi-layered. (Only the background characters like Maru’s lackeys are undeveloped, but honestly they really don’t need any development anyway.) The relationships between characters keep getting more and more complex, and the situations that the characters have to deal with are also super juicy. This is such an addicting series. My initial problem with Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was that it seemed pretty unhealthy and one-sided to me. Later, I found it very weird how sexually immature they both are, and how un-intimate their relationship is. What is interest...

Review: The Art of the Adventures of Tintin

The Art of the Adventures of Tintin by Chris Guise My rating: 5 of 5 stars The Art of The Adventures of Tintin was even better than I could have ever dreamed. This is my first "Art of" book, and I kind of knew what I was getting into but I was still surprised. I didn't even mean to start reading this when I started reading this. We were given an assignment in art class to design a poster for the school play and I really had no ideas. I remembered that these "Art of" books are full of concept art so I decided to flip through this one. Well, next thing I knew I wasn't just flipping through it, I was completely engrossed in it. I flipped to the first page and started properly reading it. This book was a good reading experience. Right off the bat Chris Guise lets the reader know that he's not going to bombard you with text, that he's gonna let the art do most of the talking and he's going to make the best "Ar...

Review: Bitter Witness: Otto Dix and the Great War

Bitter Witness: Otto Dix and the Great War by Linda F. McGreevy My rating: 0 of 5 stars This is a very unique and interesting academic text. There are no other examinations of the German artist Otto Dix, his war experience, and his war-related art that are quite as in-depth as this one, while also covering a wide range of different aspects and angles of not only the artist's story, but also the Great War's. I used this as a source for a University research essay I wrote on the effects of Dix's war experience on the creation and effects of his painting Skat Players (1920). I was very late in starting my research so I unfortunately had to stick to only reading the information I could use for my own examination, rather than being able to devour this book in its entirety. However, the library requires this book be returned at the end of January of next year, so I have some time now to actually finish this book since the semester has finished...
