My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Two major things about this volume:
1. Rize! As someone who came to these books after having watched and loved the anime, it was a treat to finally read something new! There was prologue chapter showing what Rize was up to before she came to the 20th ward that has never been animated! I guess I could see why they wouldn't really bother though.
2. No idea wtf is going on. I'm sorry but the fight scenes are actually terrible. They are so confusing that I have to stare at a pannel for 10 seconds to figure out what the fuck is happening in it. This is terrible storytelling. Fight scenes need to be fast paced god damnit. I'm also just generally not a fan of the art style, people in particular. Besides Touka. Like I've already said in past reviews, I never liked how she looked in the anime but in the manga she's a stunner. The backgrounds are actually quite nice and detailed though.
The manga still isn't as enjoyable to me as the anime was, I'm still waiting for that to hopefully change. I think I might have to wait all the way until Re:, though.
