Wow that was fantastic. I loved it. I want the next issue... now!!!
King is about a future earth where everything that could have gone wrong with the world, did. Our main character, whose name is King, is the last human left on earth though that's not to say he's the last creature. In this first installment we see what earth has come to, and we see King... go places?
See here's the thing that wasn't so good. It was kind of hard to tell what was going on sometimes. The big thing though, was the dialect. There were so many new words, and it was quite confusing. It really retracted from the storytelling. What made up for not knowing what-the-heck they're talking about was...
The drop dead gorgeous ART!!! Every single page and every drawing could be it's own painting, that's how good it was. You thought the art in Saga was good? The art in King chews up and spits the art of Saga, Volume 1 (and friends) in the drain. No offense Fiona Staples. As an artist, I really really appreciate good, well coloured, not lazy-looking art in comic books and graphic novels. King delivered by tenfold. This was probably the best illustrated comic I've ever read. This factor has definitely contributed to my great enjoyment of this comic so far.
Another thing, it was funny! I mean, granted, it was one picture that made me start laughing, but you know what, if every installment has at least one laugh then that's pretty good. Just don't be a hardass, and have fun reading it. *Cough*Prudes*Cough*
Anyway yeah, go read this. It's going to be the new Saga,
*Edit*: For all you newbies to comics: Think about it... This is 30 pages. They can only fit so much in 30 pages, so instead of complaining about "Oh it's too confusing", "Oh it's too fast", "Oh there's too much going on", "Oh there's too many unanswered questions", you're supposed to reach deeper inside your brain and think about the potential of the story using what you read in this issue. This comic book is setting the base to what the rest of the series is going to be, it's not meant to answer any questions yet, just ask a lot of them to get people interested.
Kisses to Diamond Book Publishers for approving my request on NetGalley! ;-*
