My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was way better than the second one, it was on par with the first book. I think this one had the most sports out of all of the books, as basketball was a really big part of the book and D.J.'s life. And I ain't mad!!!
Brian was so annoying. I wanted to hate him so badly but every time we saw him he melted my heart and it made me so angry!!! I hated that I secretly shipped him and D.J. even though I didn't want to. (view spoiler) This book had some type of love triangle going on which took me by surprise, I wasn't expecting that development. (view spoiler)
The ending got my face and tear ducts feelin' some type of way. I might've actually cried had I not been on the train and holding back, but alas my eyes didn't even get wet. The feeling of almost tears was there though. I just feel so proud of D.J. and this series makes her seem like a real person and I'm excited for her success. I know the last book isn't from her perspective anymore but I hope we (and I'm sure we will) get some little tidbits about how she's doing. I hope it's set a couple years in the future so we can kind of see how D.J.'s doing in University. I think this is likely to happen also because then Sara and Curtis will be in highschool, and they're the main characters of the last book. Also because then the author can pander to the audience by showing tidbits of D.J. like I just said.
Looking back now, I think I can appreciate the second book more because I can see how much D.J. has evolved throughout the course of the series. And I can see how it was important to see her go through her mushy-gushy phase with Brian and to see all the boring stuff D.J. had to go through because of Win's injury. I'm still shook that that happened, I can't believe how strong Win is to get through becoming paralyzed. I would have totally been like how he was at first and seen my life as over and wanting to die.
So far this series is good stuff (minus that second book). This book marks the conclusion of D.J.'s chapters, so hopefully Sara's PoV is just as funny and sports-filled as D.J.'s has (mostly) been. Though I'm pessimist and feel like there’s no way it will be. Sara’s smart so she probably doesn't play sports, and she definitely won't have D.J.’s farm and raised-with-three-brothers sass and personality.
