My rating: 3 of 5 stars
You know what? It was good. Solid, three stars-type good. If you've watched the TV show and are wondering if it's worth it to read the book, I say sure why not. It is a whole LOT different than the show, so you won't be bored with things you already know are going to happen. A lot of characters are different, with the only alike characters being: Clarke, Wells, Bellamy, Olivia, and Chancellor Jaha. There are some characters that are similar in role and personality to characters in the show, but name-wise those are the only ones. So obviously there's a lot of new characters, and a lot of missing ones. If you liked the show, you might also like the book, depending on exactly what aspects make you like the show in the first place.
The book doesn't really have much action. The plot is mostly driven by the characters interactions. If you like the show because of specific relationships between characters, you're going to have a bad time because either the characters don't exist or their relationships are completely different. Speaking of characters, their intelligences are significantly lower in the book than in the show, and their personalities... what personalities?
The whole thing is just pretty underdeveloped and the ending felt rushed, but you know what? I enjoyed it. The reviews I've read on this just seem like they waaayyy over analyzed the crap out of this, and their reading experience was affected thus. I feel like you have to go into this book with a REALLY open mind, and cut it lots of slack so you can look past all the problems and faults, and just enjoy it. It seems to me like the next book has nowhere to go but up, so if it ever crosses my path you bet your ass I'm going to read it.
